First time USA importer of Canadian meat. Not set up as importer and no US customs broker. Shipments loaded on multiple trucks destined to the border for crossing and production.

Corrective Actions
Sourced, recommended and secured US Customs Broker for the customer. Coordinated all direct communication on the customer’s behalf and worked with broker to provide all necessary information from both the customer and shipper to expedite the onboarding process to allow the customer to import their time sensitive inventory. Coordinated all information back to the shipper for proper documentation. Ensured USDA crossing locations aware of imports.

Successfully imported all orders problem free. No downtime in production. Limited Trailer storage for the carrier.

Scenario/Problem

Two packaged imported meat shipments called in for detailed re-inspection refused by CFIA designated establishment due to capacity in Quebec. Limited time shelf items.

Corrective Actions
Sourced multiple local alternative CFIA establishments. With no local capacity found, sourced multiple Toronto locations to receive, re-inspect and blast freeze both shipments on same the same day of occurrence.

Coordinated with all players, product transfers, documentation requirements including customs broker transfer for CFIA establishment change, re-deliveries once inspection completed and billing.

Outcome
Able to salvage high value product and keep inventory in Canada without having to send back to the USA.

Decreased carrier and customer costs by quickly locating a CFIA establishment and warehouse to receive product for short term storage and testing.

Met all CFIA requirements.

Sourced refrigerated facility to cross dock remaining affected orders, arranged additional capacity with alternative supplier due to different mode of transportation and service area.

Retail chain refusal of shipment due to load shift in unknown Canadian market.

Corrective Actions
Coordinated transfer with customer’s claims department and carrier. Sourced and secured cross dock, manpower, and any additional resources for redelivery. Certified redelivery and coordinate payables and additional charges directly between suppliers and customers.

Product Temperature

Scenario/Problem

Fresh meat combo order refused by receiver due to claims of product being frozen on a Friday afternoon in Toronto, Canada.

Corrective Actions
Coordinated with customers’ claims department on course of action. Secured cross-docking facility to take some temperature readings upon receiving and store product for the weekend. Provided documented findings to the customer who in turn presented their case to the receiver. Arranged for redelivery and coordinated all paperwork and billing for the customer and carrier.

Outcome
Avoided claim for both customer and carrier and salvage sale of product.
